UI/UX Artist

We are currently looking for a VFX artist to join our team. Please read through the requirements below.

Nodding Heads Games is looking for uber motivated, an extraordinarily talented and driven UI/UX Artist who’s excited about creating cutting edge visuals using UE4. You’ll be joining a small team of passionate individuals and their ever increasing pack of rescued Indie dogs.

 

This is a great opportunity for a driven UI/UX designer to help evolve the studio's UI/UX requirements and enhance user experience without compromising aesthetics. 

 

The ideal candidate will demonstrate all of the above via a comprehensive portfolio, who’s communications skills are second to none. Who’s active within the community and who is not afraid of expressing their opinions, who is not afraid of pushing the aesthetic/functional boundaries, who’s got bags of initiative, who’s self motivated, and who’s a great collaborator and a people's person….we’re not after much!!! ;)

 

Responsibilities:

 

  • Working closely with the teams, takes ownership of all aspects of user flow, prioritisation and organisation of all user-side information of the game

  • Researching and proposing UI art styles and preparing feature mock-ups

  • Play an active role in keeping up-to-date on trends and proposing continual improvements to existing flows

  • Ensure asset integration, management and optimisation for all UI elements, collaborating across departments Provide insightful feedback during design discussions with an emphasis on player experience

  • Ensuring our UI is optimal with continuous iteration/s and development

  • Test and debug the UI flow
     

What you'll bring:

 

  • Experienced UI/UX Designer within the games industry, with an impressive portfolio showcasing your skills

  • Deep video games knowledge 

  • Keen eye for aesthetics and art, with a focus on colour and composition in particular

  • Ability to distill abstract design goals into tangible user experiences and effective user flows, with proficiency in asset technical implementation and UI construction 

  • Effective communication skill, whether it be visual, verbal or written -across all levels, able to thrive in a dynamic team in a fast-paced, iterative environment

  • Experience on game middleware such as Flash / Scaleform / Unity3D or systems such as Unreal Engine 4 and Frostbite.

  • Proactive, Responsible, Autonomous.

  • Great communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to clearly express and present ideas.

  • Solid analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Curiosity and drive to understand how things work.

VFX Artist

Nodding Heads Games is looking for uber motivated, an extraordinarily talented and driven VFX Artist who’s excited about creating cutting edge visuals using UE4. You’ll be joining a small team of no more than 12 passionate individuals and their six Indie dogs.

 

We feel that this is a huge opportunity for a driven VFX artist to help manage, research and evolve the studios VFX pipeline and expertise to create amazing stylised visual effects through narrative and game play.

 

The focus and majority of your time will be spent creating, implementing and optimizing particle visual effects, and shaders. You will feel comfortable in a team environment and are able to deliver compelling special effects for an original IP. You will work with the Art Directors and Creative Director to create visually stunning effects utilizing Unreal 4.

 

Required:

  • Someone with a ton of passion, the desire to push their boundaries, to work beyond their comfort zone and to achieve the unachievable…

  • We’re looking for someone who’s adept at creating high-quality particle effects and textures with minimal direction in UE4 Cascade.

  • Irrespective of experience, it’s the portfolio we’re interested in, this is where you get to flex those VFX muscles, showcasing high-quality effects reel and high-resolution effect textures

  • Do you have the ability to view visual reference of an effect, deconstruct it and subsequently re-create it in a real-time game engine (Unreal 4)

  • Strong knowledge of environmental effects, fantastical, mythical, fluid, gases, lighting and dynamics… essentially all the eye candy.

  • Someone who has a proficiency in technical problem solving, and who enjoys it!

  • A VFX Artist with a strong aptitude and knowledge base for appropriate software and real-time engine use such as UE4.

  • Show prowess and an intimate working knowledge of VFX development (particle systems, shaders etc.) within software and hardware constraints.

  • A keen aptitude towards software and Real-time VFX, plus excellent working knowledge of Maya, 3D Studio Max, Photoshop & Adobe After Effects and the Adobe Creative Suite tool set.

  • Someone with a fundamental understanding of animation, timing and weighting with reference to animated VFX or pre-canned sequences.

  • A team player with strong communication skills. Who also can effectively critique their own and others work, respectfully.

Programmer

Nodding Heads Games is an award winning, passion driven Indie studio who’s working on their upcoming DLC for, Raji: An Ancient Epic using UE4. It's going to be a relatively small team of under 12, so, you’re going to be one of those coders who get stuck into everything, but isn’t shy about wanting to push the boundaries. Who sees tackling diverse sets of problems ranging across the board as a perk of the job, someone who’ll see the solution, but will say, we can do better.

We’re looking to fill a role for an exceptionally talented all round programmer who is ready for the challenge of producing a title on the next generation platforms. We’re now looking for an experienced programmer to join the team, ready to dive right into working on upcoming DLC.

You’re fast and efficient, not afraid to experiment and love working with designers, artists and animators on iterations. You’re a great communicator and can’t think of anything better than working as part of a team where you play an active role in helping shape the game and its development. Ideally, you’ve had experience as a gameplay programmer, or if not, you’re passionate about getting that into the centre of your skill set.

Mandatory:

 

  • 3 or more years of experience with UE4

  • Strong knowledge of C++

  • Good debugging and performance optimization skills.

  • Experience developing a game for a console (Xbox One, PS4 or Switch)

  • Good communication with other departments

  • Knowledge of basic gameplay systems

  • Ability to work in autonomy

  • Can work remotely
     

Preferred skills/Preference given to:
 

  • Experience with UMG (Unreal Motion Graphics) UI Designer

  • Experience of shipping at least one title developed with UE4

  • Knowledge of porting a project in UE4 to numerous consoles

  • Knowledge of UE4 rendering source code

  • Knowledge of UE4 material editor

  • Dog lovers preferred :D

Animator

Nodding Heads Games is looking to add to its family, we’re on the hunt for an immensely talented animator who is ready for the challenge of producing a title on the next generation platforms using UE4.


You’ll be working with characters, creatures and props and as such we require a motivated professional with a strong eye for detail, who’ll take the initiative, someone who’s able to provide alternate solutions, has a fundamental understanding of game development processes,  and a passion for video games, movies and story telling that matches our own. 

Your expertise in the creation of animation will cover a broad range of key areas, including facial and keyframe. Your developed eye will aid in the breakdown and design of animation focused mechanics.

You’re required to possess oodles of creativity and ingenuity, who’ll bring that problem solver into play, with a good knowledge of the technical aspects of your craft, including practical experience with current 3D software such as Maya, 3Ds Max and Motionbuilder. As an animator at Nodding Heads Games you’ll also have the opportunity to collaborate with the team on improving the animation and pipelines.

Skills Summary:

  • To create and develop industry leading gameplay animations and animations that support the narrative of the game.

  • Have a proactive working relationship with the team to ensure assets and direction are consistent and hit the expected quality goals.

  • Experience in a variety of animation styles.

  • Strong Keyframe Animation skills.

  • Visual storytelling skills.

  • Creative skillset that can adapt to technical requirements.

  • Strong understanding of human anatomy.

  • Practical knowledge of current 3D software (Maya, 3DS Max and Motion builder).

  • Experienced knowledge of the Unreal Engine or similar game engine/s.

  • Rigging

  • Knowledge of editing software (Premiere/After Effects) is advantageous, but not essential.

  • Experience of creating animation networks.

  • A strong and diverse portfolio of different animation styles.

  • A self-motivated team player with strong communication and organizational skills.

  • To be proactive in problem solving and have a great level of independence and have the ability to work in autonomy.

  • Able to work exceptionally well within a team: willingness to give and receive feedback, and the ability to embrace change; ability to collaborate productively with others.
